Known as the City of Jacksonville’s “Better Jacksonville Plan—Road Improvements” project, CMTS performed construction management and inspection services for various projects in a joint collaborative team consisting of the JEA, Jacksonville Transportation Authority, and the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT).

One of the first in a series of projects which CMTS staff would actively oversee was the repair and replacement of an asphalt roadway on State Road 13 (San Jose Blvd.) and the construction of a new bridge over Julington Creek. Timiquana Road (SR 134) is a major roadway construction project that included repair and resurfacing of an existing 4-lane highway, the construction of new turn lanes, and the widening and extension of the existing SR 134. The contract covered a 2.5-mile project on SR 134, which was an extension of 103rd Street, and encompassed Wesconnett Blvd., SR 15, and US 17 (Roosevelt Blvd.).

The Blanding Blvd and Cedar Creek project consists of the construction of the new roadway, milling and resurfacing of existing asphalt roads, widening of the existing roadway, the building of new turn lanes, and adding new curbs and gutters. This is a major roadway project that includes resurfacing existing roadway and widening. There will also be additional lanes build on Blanding Blvd. and renovation of the bridge over Cedar Creek.

The scope of work for these projects involved the building of retaining walls and implementation of environmental controls, construction of new side drain and culverts, removal and installation of water, sewer and force main pipes. The project was successful in providing water and sewer connections into existing commercial and residential service for JEA and the City of Jacksonville.
