
The Pyramid is the largest space frame building in North America standing 18 stories tall. Each of its four sides measures 345 feet and forms a uniform square base.

The Pyramid has a seating capacity of 5,000 and utilizes unique cantilevered seats on moveable platforms, weighing 81 tons. The exterior is constructed of a system of 18,000 steel tubes and connection modules joined by more than 160,000 3/4 inch bolts.

The Pyramid contains three full basketball courts, five volleyball courts, ticket and athletic offices, a fitness center, an educational conference center and the University Athletic Hall of Fame.

CMTS provided construction management services for the $22 million Pyramid Athletic Center at California State University Long Beach. CMTS managed the general contractor’s activities, which included reviewing work schedules, review and negotiation of contract change orders, processing pay applications, and coordinating the closeout of the construction contract. CMTS was additionally responsible for daily inspections of construction work and direction of all material testing activity.
